Have you ever walked past the volunteer peach tree near the sidewalk close to 30th and Albemarle Streets and wondered if anyone ever gets a taste?
I’ve often thought that our Forest Hills neighbor who owns the property might get a few jars of jam — or a pie or two — from the small feral fruit tree that likely grew from a discarded pit from a store-bought peach.
A couple of weeks ago, the little tree was full of ripening peaches. But one recent morning, on my walk to Giant, I noticed the tree was bare.
Did a pie get baked or was someone plundering our neighbor’s prized peach tree? Was it midnight raiders? Sneaky raccoons? Or could it be the groundhogs that have been spotted recently, foraging in Forest Hills?
The mystery has officially been solved — and the culprit was caught red-pawed on the nearby shade tree!
This brazen furry creature was spotted hanging completely upside down, clinging to the bark with acrobatic precision while greedily munching on a stolen, juicy peach.
This little bandit must have incredible front paw strength!
