Meet the ANC 3F candidates: Carlos Silva, 3F06

Whether you’re voting at your dining table or at a voting center, many of you might find your ballot has a blank space where an ANC candidate’s name should appear. That’s because no one in those single-member districts filed to run before the Board of Elections deadline, and that’s the case in two of ANC 3F’s SMDs.

But those voters still have options. At least two people are running as write-in candidates in 3F02 and 3F06.

The full slate (that we know of) is below, with links to statements of introduction sent to Forest Hills Connection.

3F01 – Manolis Priniotakis
3F02 – No candidate on the ballot. Dimitrios Vatakis is a write-in candidate.
3F03 – Mitchell Baer (incumbent)
3F04 – Tosha Skolnik
3F05 – Spenser H. Dettwyler, Adrian Jesus Iglesias (incumbent)
3F06 – No candidate on the ballot. Carlos Silva is a write-in candidate.

ANC 3F06

Places of note in ANC 3F06 include the rehabilitated Linnean and Broad Branch streams, Forest Hills of DC Inclusive Senior Living and Sunrise Senior Living, the Engine 31 firehouse, and the Connecticut Avenue commercial district between Fessenden Street and Nebraska Avenue. The diverse housing stock includes detached single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes, and multi-family apartment buildings and condos.

Carlos Silva is the latest candidate to step into the ANC race. The 3F06 resident is asking registered voters in the single-member district for their write-in vote. Here is his statement:

My name is Carlos Silva, and I’ve lived in DC almost continuously since 2011. My wife and I recently moved to the Forest Hills/Chevy Chase neighborhood (3F06) with our two young kids, who are both in DC public schools. Over the last two decades my career has spanned government (state & federal), business (start-up), and basic research (NASA & U. Maryland).

Carlos Silva

I’m running a write-in campaign for 3F06 ANC (Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner) for two reasons:

  1. To be a voice for you in city decision-making.

  2. Because DC is a fantastic city, but it can be a better city.

I draw deep conviction from the ideal of the city as a community – you, me, all residents of this fair city – deliberating together to decide our common future.

A city that works for you.

A city that works for all.

Please check out my campaign website (carlosforanc.org) to learn more about my commitments to you, if I’m elected.

A well-kept city

Potholes mended. Park benches and playgrounds repaired. Litter collected. The basics, done right. If you see something that needs fixing, pin it on this map, so that I can be a persistent voice with city agencies for addressing needed repairs.

A safe city

I will advocate for preventative, early interventions that provide the vulnerable and the troubled the support they need (housing, mental health interventions, etc.).

An affordable city

Four walls and a roof is not too much to ask. For our public servants. For working families. For young families. To ensure our city is a community for all.

I will advocate for changes to the DC Comprehensive Plan that would enable construction of thousands of new housing units. I favor diverse options for increasing housing supply, while protecting our green spaces and historical architecture.

A walkable, bikeable city

A city where we all can safely walk and bike about town, and achieve DC’s Vision Zero of no serious bike and pedestrian injuries or fatalities.

I will advocate for more pedestrianized spaces and dedicated bike lanes to protect us all: pedestrians, bikers, and drivers.

I invite you to share your priorities with me via my campaign website (carlosforanc.org), so I can voice your interests and concerns to city agencies and the city council.

Though a  nearly 15-year DC resident, I’m new to the Chevy Chase/Forest Hills neighborhood, so I must run a write-in campaign. To vote for me, you’ll need to write my name on your ballot. Thank you for your vote!
