Wednesday, with temperatures reaching up to 51, was a great day for a spring-seeking hike.
I was keeping my eyes peeled for the green shoots and blossoms that typically appear in February, but sometimes appear as early as January.
First, however, I could not resist taking a good look at the beauty of this tree trunk sculpture in Rock Creek Park.
Then I found, springing forth along the trail, the green leaves of lesser celandine, also called fig buttercup.
It’s a very invasive plant and not an entirely welcome sight.
Closer to home along Albemarle Street, I discovered the biggest clump of crocuses I have seen so far, and several honey bees taking advantage of their blooms.
And in my own backyard, I found daffodils and asters pushing their way through the leaves.
I know Forest Hills Connection contributor Kathy Sykes would heartily approve of my leaf mulch.
