The first Forest Hills Park cleanup of 2026 took place last weekend. One volunteer reported picking up more than 50 cigarette butts (though smoking is illegal in DC parks). Another took care of an even more disgusting problem.

Van Ness Main Street’s Good Clean Fun initiative organized a successful cleanup of Forest Hills Park and Playground on Saturday. Volunteers ranged in age from four to sixty-four.
Mayoral candidate Gary Goodweather stopped by and took on one of the most pungent jobs: cleaning out dog waste bags that don’t make it into the trash can and are left behind to marinate in the cage.
