When we wrote about some of DDOT’s Connecticut Avenue traffic safety plans last month, we did not include the agency’s plans to move or remove some bus stops along the corridor.
Among other changes, DDOT wants to move the southbound Metrobus stop at Brandywine Street from the north end of the intersection to the south, in front of the Frontenac apartments. And it’s planning to remove the southbound bus stop on Chesapeake Street entirely.
ANC 3F is voting at its May 12 meeting on a resolution opposing the Chesapeake bus stop removal, in part because “relocating the stops would require students and other users to cross additional intersections, increasing exposure to turning vehicles….”
The Brandywine and Davenport Street bus stops are the closest alternatives.
In another resolution, about DDOT’s 300-foot boundary for its Safe Routes to School plan for Murch Elementary, ANC 3F notes that “survey respondents most frequently identified the intersection of Connecticut Avenue NW and Davenport Street NW as particularly unsafe for students.”
It is also outside of the boundary and is not addressed in the DDOT plan.
