On August 21st, DC Water plans to begin installing cured-in-place pipe along a new segment of the 110-year-old sewer pipe in the Soapstone Valley.
The agency set out the new, tentative schedule at ANC 3F’s July 18th meeting, and has scheduled a virtual meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 17th. (See below for the connection information. An August 1st project email said the topics to be discussed during the August virtual meeting would include “why traces of styrene are being detected in air sampling results, and possible corrective actions to be taken to address this matter.” Experts from DC Water contractors IPR and AECOM will be available “to address this issue and answer your questions regarding this subject.”
At the ANC 3F meeting, Emanuel Briggs, DC Water’s director of community affairs, also said “we’ll be out in the community more.”
“We’ll be at the [UDC] farmers market during the month of August,” Briggs said. “Also we will be hosting virtual and in-person meetings with uh stakeholders, specifically stakeholders along the path of shots six through 10 [see the masp below], so working with Park Van Ness, the Montessori school and others in that area.”
The meeting also included this plea from ANC 3F commissioner Mitchell Baer: “Please stay out of the park.” The park is closed through spring 2024, and while operations might seem to be paused from time to time, “[they] are going to be commencing again shortly…. It’s dangerous for you, it’s dangerous for the the workers and it just is not a good thing to do.”
