Broad Branch Road

The Washington Post recently covered the plans to rebuild the “classic country road in the middle of the city,” including the option that would add an uphill bike lane and a pedestrian path.

In a letter to the editor, the secretary of the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts argues that a “significant widening of the road would damage the character” of Rock Creek Park.

Another letter writer says, if widening the road to make room for walkers and cyclists is environmentally harmful, then vehicle access should be limited or eliminated. Also, note the commenter “kmulshin,” who wishes for more pedestrian and bicycle accommodations on Military Road.

 
Deer “reduction”
Sharpshooters are returning to Rock Creek Park, and more deer are in their sights. WUSA 9 and others report on overnight road closures related to the latest deer reduction effort, which is scheduled to last through March. The National Park Service aims to cull 106 deer. Last winter’s operation, delayed by lawsuits and limited to three nights, bagged 20 deer.
