Some of our 34th Street neighbors (between Broad Branch Terrace and Fessenden) are hosting a yard sale and petition-signing effort tomorrow, starting at 9:30 a.m. The petition asks DDOT to start a traffic calming assessment of 34th. The hosts are at 5105 and 5109 34th Street NW. And they’re inviting neighbors to bring their own junk to add to the sale.
One of the organizers explains the petition:
34th Street is used daily at commute times as a cut through to Connecticut. Cars regularly speed up the hill with little consideration for the families who live and use 34th Street to get to school. It would be great if some kind of traffic calming could be implemented to slow people down and encourage them to be more considerate of the families who live in this area.
In order to start the assessment process, DDOT requires that 75 percent of affected local residents sign a petition. Therefore, this Saturday, we are holding a street-wide Yard Sale to draw neighbors together to recycle unwanted items and sign the petition. Clare Rawlings at 5109 34th Street has the petition.
