Updates on the Pedestrian Front - Forest Hills Connection

In the ANC 3F July meeting Tom Whitley will deal with the lack of sidewalks on Brandywine between 30th and 32nd Street. The ANC has not been able to move beyond discussion for some time. A suggested way forward would be a resolution requesting DDOT do a site visit with neighbors and ANC commissioners.

In the Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Hearing on May 30th, Chair Councilmember Mendelson got a commitment of MPD to collaborate with the Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Councils in establishing benchmarks for traffic safety and enforcement. Chicago has set a goal for 0 fatalities by 2022. Pedestrian Advisory Council will be looking at their benchmarking to achieve this goal.

In May, a child was hit crossing the street at Albemarle and Connecticut, and this month a Deal student was hit crossing at Cumberland and 36th Streets after school. DDOT continues to replace sidewalks on Connecticut Avenue. Much of the work is much needed and appears well done. But the job that was done on the east side between Albemarle and Windom is sloppy and neglected problem areas.
