The Wilson Aquatic Center is welcoming swimmers for the first time since it closed in February.
The DC Department of Parks and Recreation announced on June 9th that the June 12th reopening is a temporary one, and that the pool will be closed for two months this fall and winter for an overhaul of the faulty HVAC systems that contributed to the DC Department of Health order to shut down the facility.
Ward 3 Council member Matt Frumin said in his June 9th constituent newsletter that the operating status of the pool “remains tenuous” until that work can be completed. What that means, he says, is that “[if indoor] humidity levels rise above safe levels, the Wilson Aquatic Center will close again.”
Frumin says he asked DPR to extend the Hearst Pool’s operating hours to accommodate demand, and DPR agreed. Once Hearst Pool begins six-day-a-week operations on June 26th, it will open early, at 6 a.m. The pool’s closing time is 8 p.m. It’s currently open weekends only, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., through June 25th.
The Wilson Aquatic Center’s hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. To receive text message alerts on facility closures, text “DCDPR” to 888777.
