The Secret Park: Update

36th park thumbnailGood news: The “secret” park at 36th and Yuma Streets has not been forgotten. And soon, it won’t be allowed deteriorate any more.

Last month, Margery Elfin gave us a tour of this park and showed us the crumbling flagstones and retaining walls. She’s been concerned about the condition of the park for some time.

Forest Hills Connection set about finding the agency responsible for maintaining the park, and thanks to this article, we now know. The U.S. Department of State confirms that it manages the property, which is adjacent to the International Chancery Center (ICC).

Even better, the State Department’s Office of Real Property Management assures us this park is scheduled to be upgraded and repaired by this fall, as are all of ICC’s public spaces.

By the way, this “secret” park has a name: North West Park. And now the secret is out.
