One day’s commuting mess at Van Ness

Van Ness had several unexpected visitors one day in June. Unexpected, as in not too many of them expected to be stranded here.

The second of Metro’s arcing insulator problems during the June 23rd morning commute shut down Red Line service between Van Ness and Dupont Circle. And what that meant was hundreds (dare we say thousands?) of passengers were dumped out at Van Ness to find other means of getting to work and appointments. Of course the many locals who use the station were also out of luck.

By virtue of its location a block from the Metro station, WAMU was literally on top of the story.

We do hope your Monday morning commutes have been better. And that those who were stranded will return to our neighborhood – by choice next time – to visit and enjoy our restaurants, markets, bakery, hiking trails and cultural activities.
