The University of the District of Columbia will now host Murch for the entire two-year construction project. DCPS and DGS had told the community in December that Murch would get only one year at UDC before it had to return to its still-under-construction campus.
The new plan announced by Murch’s School Improvement Team (SIT) last week gives UDC the new turf field that was going to limit Murch’s stay to one year. It also gives Murch students more time to enjoy what UDC has to offer. According to the SIT:
UDC is very interested in working with Murch on educational programs and partnerships. Areas that have already been mentioned as opportunities for partnerships between the two schools relate to urban farming, green energy, robotics, music, art, after school athletics and tutoring.
Come to Murch tonight at 7 p.m. for an update on the renovation and relocation from DCPS and DGS officials.
Murch’s SIT and HSA are also encouraging the community to help advocate for full funding of the renovation project.
