When Marjorie Rachlin asked me to take some photos of mushrooms for her recent (and excellent) article on the topic in the Forest Hills Connection, I never imagined how addictive it would become, and how many different kinds of mushrooms I would find in my own yard and around the neighborhood!
At least five or six of the fungi featured in this little slideshow were in my garden, and the others were all in Forest Hills or Rock Creek Park. My own favorite is the little group of what I think are Shaggy Mane mushrooms, and the weird Bleeding Tooth, both of which I found on Albemarle Street.
Keep your eyes open and see what you can find, especially after the next heavy rainfall, and take your cameras along so that we can all share in the fun. Happy hunting!
