Volunteers descended on various Rock Creek Park sites over the Martin Luther King Day weekend to haul out accumulated trash, and boy, did they find a lot.
The cleanups organized by Rock Creek Conservancy included Broad Branch Stream, Soapstone Valley at Windom Place, and Peirce Mill. The Soapstone cleanup, a joint effort by the Conservancy and ANC 3F’s Soapstone and Melvin C Hazen Parks & Trails Committee, covered a relatively small area yet seemed to yield a disproportionately large amount of trash.
