Join Mayor Bowser Sat. August 18 for a ribbon-cutting at Murch School

The ribbon-cutting event will begin 30 minutes earlier than previously advertised. Plan to show up at 2:30 p.m. for the ceremony and the festivities.

In the two years since the renovation of Murch Elementary began, we’ve heard these two questions quite a bit: 1) Will it be ready in time for the 2018-2019 school year, and 2) When can we see inside?

The answer to the first question is most definitely yes. Murch staff moved in last week, the construction fences have come down, and classes will begin on Monday, August 20th with the rest of DCPS.

For those who are not Murch parents, we’re still working on the answer to the second question. However, there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony this Saturday, August 18th, and the DC Mayor’s Office is extending an invitation to the community as well:

Please join Mayor Muriel Bowser for a celebration of the newly modernized Murch Elementary School on August 18 from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM. All are welcome to join us for carnival activities and snacks as we welcome the Murch Elementary students and staff to their new school campus. Register here.

It does not appear there will be an opportunity to tour the renovated historic building or see inside the addition at this event. But we will let you know when there is. And in the meantime, here’s a collection of recent (and increasingly enthusiastic) construction updates on Twitter:
