Early spring wildflowers are not the season’s only ephemeral beauties. The white-throated sparrow is visiting us for only a brief time.
It arrives in the early spring from the southern states and leaves for New England and Canada when the weather here gets too hot for it. I have heard one at various times when I am out in my backyard, when I wake up in the morning through the cracked window, and other times while walking the local streets of Forest Hills. This recording captures its song in my backyard.
I also heard a different bird that seemed to be replying. Can you identify it?
