Business in Brief: Il Supremo opens, Giant’s revised backpacks ban, MOM’s edges toward opening

Il Supremo Italian II is now open. The newest restaurant on Connecticut Avenue opened on September 14th, just in time to host some of the Celebrate Van Ness Main Street festivities on its patio at 4400. And did you know that Il Supremo II is a homecoming of sorts for owner David Lobo?

Giant revises its backpacks ban. Giant Food customers had a lot to say in May about a new policy barring customers from carrying large bags such as backpacks and duffles into the Van Ness location and a few other area stores. We haven’t heard as much from folks about the latest changes. The bags are now allowed as long as shoppers consent to a bag check on the way out. But a new ban has been added at the Van Ness Giant and a handful of other stores: on unaccompanied children after 6 p.m.

WTOP spoke to customers at the store on August 22nd, the day the new policy took effect.

MOM’s Organic Market is coming soon, and it really means it this time. We’ve mentioned its ABCA application for a stipulated alcohol sales license. Another seemingly small indicator that MOM’s is gearing up for opening its 4250 Connecticut store is that the location is back on its website after a long absence. Also back up: the physical “COMING SOON” window sign. It had fallen recently.

Notable visitors, present and past. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was at Politics and Prose recently to sign copies of her new memoir.

This is the bookstore’s 40th year in business, and it’s been a longtime pilgrimage for nationally known names with books to promote. Or who are simply there to shop.
