New crosswalk activated at Connecticut Ave. and Windom Place

The crosswalk was striped. The new signals installed. All that remained was to uncover and turn on the lights – and the new crosswalk on the south side of Connecticut Avenue at Windom Place was open for business as of Tuesday, June 26th.

Here’s closer look at the walk signal on the other side of the intersection:

No fanfare, no fireworks, just this tweet from DDOT to mark the occasion.

But the neighbors have been watching the progress at this intersection, and growing more excited by the day. For example, this WAMU reporter:

Construction on this and the reconfigured crossing on the north side of the intersection began in April. It’s the result of years of effort on the part of ANC 3F, the community and DC agencies. ANC 3F first proposed the changes to DDOT in late 2003. DDOT’s reply, in January 2004:
