Logjam threatening Broad Branch Road is cleared

On Friday, we reported on the logjam at the Soapstone culvert under Broad Branch Road. Volunteers working on Soapstone trail improvements expressed concerns that it could force stormwater around the culvert and undermine the roadway.

On Saturday, we found a DC Water crew clearing all that debris.

Hikers, drivers and cyclists also found Broad Branch Road cleared of debris on the west shoulder. Here’s what it looked like on Saturday, June 4th:

DC Water’s stream cleaning crew, led by Vincent Sims, is responsible for clearing out the culverts to ensure water gets to where it needs to go.

“We say it with pride because we love what we do. And that’s serving the public with a smile,” Sims told me in an email.

DDOT is responsible for clearing Broad Branch Road.  The work here was performed by the Street and Bridge Maintenance Division of DDOT on June 6th. Roadway Maintenance Supervisor Jermain Patterson led the team.
