What will Forest Hills be like in one, five, 15 years… and beyond? In 2013, we learned about some of some concrete plans for the future of the neighborhood:
Van Ness Square is coming down, and Park Van Ness will be built in its place.
Marvelous Market founder Mark Furstenberg intends to open Bread Furst later this winter.
The Forest Hills Playground will be renovated this summer.
Work continues on UDC’s new student center. The plans include a greener public space.
Some plans are very real, but could be years in the making, such as:
DC Water’s sewer rehabilitation project in the Soapstone Valley, and
The possible addition of a sidewalk and bike lane on Broad Branch Road.
And some writers floated new ideas and asked many “what if” questions:
What if Busboys and Poets moved in?
What if Van Ness had more of a visual pop?
What if the former Intelsat headquarters became a tech incubator?
What if we had fruit carts?
What if the “paper road” from Albemarle Street into Rock Creek Park became a real entrance for walkers and cyclists?
So much is happening in Forest Hills that ANC 3F created a vision committee to track and help guide and facilitate the changes, as well as come up with new ideas for the future of Forest Hills, DC. And we collected your ideas for retail and services in the neighborhood. Those results are coming soon!
