2012 Flashback: High-Rise Life

Forest Hills high-risers are a vital and diverse community, consisting of 17 apartment buildings, 10 condominiums and 3 cooperatives. And we even have one low-rise garden apartment community in our midst.

Barbara Cline writes our High-Rise Life column, and while she has found a number of interesting stories to tell, she thinks she has only scratched the surface. So we invite you to join her efforts. Tell us what it is like to raise a family in a condo or apartment. Or keep us informed about issues related to condo living.

Here are Barbara’s 2012 columns:

  • The tenant voting bloc in DC is enormous.
  • Did you know? One high-rise neighbor is a sports legend. Another is literally knitting a community.
  • Barbara saved hundreds of dollars after attending her first DC tenant summit.
  • DC’s population is growing, due, in part, to the “Ruppies” moving in.
  • How neighbors help neighbors in Van Ness North
  • Rent Control 101
  • Where can high-risers put up out-of-town guests?
  • Technology solves a laundry room problem.

And where do high-risers with a green thumb get their hands dirty? Marjorie Rachlin paid a visit to a popular spot – Melvin Hazen Community Garden. And Beverly Ringel offers tips for greening your own balcony.
